Purpose

The Historic Downtown Commission is tasked with developing ideas, strategies, and initiatives to revitalize the downtown area. Namely, the HDC is dedicated to three goals, which are: 

  1. Encourage the sustainable economic revitalization of the City of Lexington’s Commercial Community Historic District, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 (#83001025) and is roughly bounded by 8th, 13th, South, Broadway, and Main streets. 

  2. Nurture community collaboration in the creation of a vital preservation ethic that celebrates the City’s remarkable history and culture. 

  3. Identify economic revitalization approaches that increase the visibility and profile of this historic City to generate economic growth and opportunity.
